Actua Solutions wins Bronze in Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards
Actua Solutions, a leading company in innovation and implementation services for e-learning projects, has won the Bronze Award in the category “Best Results of a Training and Development Program” in the Excellence Awards granted by Brandon Hall Group. And it has done so with the Charles River Laboratories project and Totara technology as an elearning platform.
The “Best Results in a Training and Development Program” category focuses on analyzing those training programs within an organization that have achieved desirable results aligned with program objectives as well as exceptional business results.
In the case of Charles River, these objectives have been far exceeded. It is a U.S. corporation specialized in preclinical and clinical laboratory services for the pharmaceutical industry. In recent years, the company has more than doubled its growth in two directions: both in terms of results and business volume, through a series of mergers and acquisitions, and in terms of its customer base.
COVID-19 fueled this growth and challenged the company, as all COVID-19 vaccines were created hand-in-hand with Charles River and, in fact, it is involved in the safe commercialization of 98% of drugs, therapies, vaccines and other treatments.
This scenario made it increasingly difficult for them to meet the Training and Development needs of the organization and its users. So the challenge was to redesign the entire online learning ecosystem, as their previous rudimentary LMS, manual spreadsheets and simple databases were not allowing them to implement the desired strategy.
With more than 19,000 employees in 22 countries and thousands more customers around the world relying on Charles River and training and developing within their platform, they needed a new way to ensure consistent learning and compliance with the pharmaceutical industry’s strong regulations.
Today, the Charles River Campus platform has more than 40,000 registered users and nearly 8,000 courses available. To date, users have completed more than 2.8 million courses, which is a significant increase from the 100,000 course completions they had in 2018, as well as 150,000 program and certification completions to date.
To date, Charles River has saved an impressive $11 million in training costs with Totara.
Elton Machholz, Learning & Development Manager, Charles River Laboratories, says:
“Totara is flexible, adaptable and can scale with us. I have worked with the top 10 learning management systems over the past 19 years and Totara is by far the easiest to use.”
In this context and taking into account your line of work, time is extremely important. The less time invested in training and improving team skills, the more resources available for the organization’s core objective: commercializing new vaccines and therapies. To that end, Charles River saves about 1,000 hours in management learning per year, which equates to 25 workweeks per year.
Lars Hyland, general manager EMEA at Totara, said:
“The recognition for Charles River Laboratories as well as Actua Solutions is well deserved. An excellent project exemplifying how organizations build a unified, but also highly flexible, learning platform to deliver unique employee experiences that better engage and develop their people, in the right way for them. The Totara team is incredibly proud of the continued success our partners and customers achieve with our Talent Experience Platform.”
“The Excellence Award winners are distinguished by their growing understanding that all HCM functions are integrated and must work together to move businesses forward,” said Rachel Cooke, COO of Brandon Hall Group, leader of the HCM Excellence Awards program.
Entries were evaluated by a panel of veterans, senior independent industry experts, analysts and Brandon Hall Group executives based on these criteria: fit to need, program design, functionality, innovation and overall measurable benefits.
“Our award winners demonstrated the vision, agility and innovation needed to excel in the unfamiliar hybrid work environment,” said Brandon Hall Group CEO Mike Cooke. “We aggregate and review award categories to ensure that we not only validate HCM best practices, but also solicit and recognize next practices that set a high standard for all.”
